Personal History

After 4 years serving my apprenticeship with as a Civil Engineering Draughtsman with a local Consulting Civil Engineering practice, dealing with major road & bridge works for the A19 Teesside diversion, I then moved onto seek further specialist experience in Building design & Maintenance .

I then enjoyed 15 years as an Estates Management Technician, looking after the British Telecom buildings located all over the North East region.

It was while I was at BT that I started my plans business part time, initially drawing up house extensions for other members of BT staff .

During this period  the company  was also making the transistion from the 'drawing board' to Computer Aided Design (CAD ) and I acquired a reputation for pushing the boundaries as regards the quality of what could be acheived using digital drawing techniques.

In 1988 I decided to seek out a cost effective home computer system & software to use at home that would enable me to prepare simple building plans for residential dwellings, suitable for Council Planning submissions.

I decided to choose the Apple Mac & 'MacDraw' software, and used that setup for many years until I was under pressure from regular clients to convert to 'AutoCad' , the present industry standard.

Although I have dipped in and out of 'employed' and 'self employed' status over recent years, I have always kept my business running in the background with the idea I could eventually become self sufficient, and I am pleased to say this has now been realised!
